Karma is alive and well

On Saturday when I went into the office looking for my camera, I asked the Security Guard if she could look in the Lost and Found to see if it had been turned in.  She looked and said no.  So as I said in my previous post, I was going to tape up a poster in the locker room to see if anyone had found it.

First thing Monday morning, I put the poster up.  Then on my way back to my office, I seen a young guy who did not know how to get through the locked doors within our office complex.  He was there for a job interview.  I told him that he had to go to the main entrance and use the house phone to call to be let in.  But instead of leaving it at that, I took him to the house phone to make sure he could find it as he was already nervous enough with the upcoming job interview.  While standing by the house phone, an area of the building that I normally am not in, I seen someone I know who is often in the locker room.  I asked him if he had seen the camera on Friday afternoon.  He said no but he would ask the other men in his office as they use that room often for it is the closest washroom facility to where they work.  The security guard heard us talking and said that a red camera was turned in Friday afternoon.  I would have never asked him because I had asked the weekend guard but apparently she did not check the correct place for the lost and found items.

So had I not walked the guy who was there for the interview to the house phone but instead just gave him directions, none of this would have happened and I would not have received my camera back.  Karma is alive and well.

BUT now that I did have my camera back, I took pictures of my St Catherines trail - this is the trail that I walk every day at lunch - AND there is more!!!!   I met Charlo on the course - she just finished walking the entire Camino in April and this is the first time I had seen her since before she left - so she had lots to tell me and I had lots of questions - BUT - I had to get back to work so I had to cut the discussion short.  Here are some pictures of the trail.

Great News!

I have hiked for the past 8 days straight - with no knee issues.  A little bit of strain but nothing to speak of.  Yesterday I went down into the Niagara Gorge with the Bruce Trail hikers and the hike lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes.  It is very rocky and rough down there but time goes fast because you are spending so much time watching where you are going to step next.  Today I hiked along the Welland Canal with the hikers again.  It was like a hike in the park compared to yesterday's gorge hike - and in fact, it was in a park :)

There are no pictures to share because on Friday, I was going to take some pictures of where I hike at work  along the 12 Mile Creek in St Catharines, but I forgot my camera on top of my locker, and I went back in on Saturday morning to retrieve it so that I could take pictures of the Gorge hike and it was gone.  So tomorrow I will post a notice at work and hopefully a honest person will return it.

If over the next two weeks the knee pain stays away, then I will be booking my flights.

Update

I figured I'd better do an update because my Blog says that I am 51 - and last week was my birthday - so I need to update it and tell folks that I am now 52.

A week ago I hiked with the Bruce Trail Hiking Club - my first time out with them in a while.  On the Saturday, we hiked for 2 hours, and on the Sunday which was my birthday, the hike was 1.5 hours.  Both hikes involved going up and down hills and at a good pace as these mostly retired hikers can really walk fast.  My knee was very sore after the hikes but I really enjoyed spending my birthday hiking through the woods.

Then this past week I had to go to a place called Thunder Bay for work. I was there for 5 days. It is a 16 hour drive north of where I live, so I flew up there - which is a 2 hour flight.  But by the time you drive to the airport, go through security, wait for your flight, land, etc. that all takes about 6-7 hours - so you save about 10 hours by flying.  It is a very nice scenic area, but very cold in the winter often dropping to -30C.  I lived there for 7 years in the 1980's, but prefer to live in the Southern Ontario area where the winters are warmer, and shorter, and the spring, summer, and fall are longer.

I will post below pictures from both the hike and the bottom 6 pictures are from Thunder Bay.  Remember, if you click on the pictures, you will enlarge them.
